Referees and sport (Why, Who and How)

Updated: Aug 29, 2020

Do you ever wonder why anyone would want to be a referee? It can be a tough job, just make a mistake (yes everyone will make at least on in their life) in a big game and hear the wrath of the crowd. Someday's every player and sideline fan will know the rule book and how to apply it, better than you. So why would you take on this role.

Referee's (especially in touch) provide a highly supportive team culture. Importantly it paves the way for some solid life skills such as communication, decision making, communication and conflict resolution. It is an income generating past time that also builds fitness. It is also a great platform to gain and be assessed against capabilities, each level providing new and interesting challenges.

We love our referees at Brothers. We are passionate about offering opportunities for our kids to experience this as a first job. It builds confidence and a strong sense of purpose as well as resilience to overcome challenges in a supportive environment. Referee pathways can take you all over the state, nationally and internationally. Let us know if you want to give it a go.
