This year will see us compete to retain the Men's Open State Championship for the fourth year running. This is not the first time our comparatively small club has found ourselves on a winning streak. Back in late 2000's we were equally strong.
So what is the secret of our success. Many factors lead to a strong competitive team however we believe strong leadership and culture are at the heart of our team. We have plenty of individual talent across our club but it is how we combine it and work for one another that is the secret of our success. We have deep ties between players including several sets of brothers and cousins. Our team culture is underpinned by concepts of whanau 'family', manaakitanga 'going that extra mile to welcome and look after others' and 'mana' a deep pride in who we are as individuals, a club and people. These elements are drawn together by our leadership and coach TMan, aptly supported by his partner Tinielle. As a coach he has faced defeat and learn't many lessons about leadership and team culture. He has also stepped up into state level coaching for WA and we couldn't be prouder of him.
Win or lose we will be back out there in 2021 with our rivals/friends competing for the sport we love. #BH
